Liquid biopsy is a new term in the fight against cancer

28 April

On April 27-28, the VI Congress of Oncologists and Radiologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Almaty. Its priority issues were: diagnosis of malignant tumors, including pathology of tumors; screening for early detection; innovative methods of personalized therapy; high-tech methods of radiation therapy and modern achievements in surgery. The issues of transplantology, neurooncology, and psycho-social assistance were also considered, and the possibilities of the pathomorphological and molecular-genetic laboratory were presented.

The culmination of the Congress was a solemn ceremony of signing the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of combating cancer in the Republic of Kazakhstan between the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology (KazRIOR) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan represented by Director Dilyara Kaidarova and Merck, a partner of VIVA Pharm, represented by the Vice President, Head of the Intercontinental Region Yannis Vlontzos. Within the framework of this agreement, the KazRIOR received for free a set of unique laboratory equipment that allows introducing in Kazakhstan, for the first time on the post-Soviet space, a new innovative method of RAS marker molecular diagnostics - the "Liquid Biopsy".

The process and quality of the treatment itself often depends on timely and qualitative diagnosis. The rapidity (the time of result achievement is about 2 hours), the minimal invasiveness and ease of performing a liquid biopsy will help to make timely decision regarding the appointment of targeted therapy to patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, which means that precious time for treatment will not be lost. Previously, patients were waiting for their diagnosis for 10-15 days.

VIVA Pharm appreciates partnership and is glad to be a part of the work to improve the survival of Kazakhstani patients and the further introduction of high-tech medical technologies in all regions of our country for more accessible and qualified oncological care.
